USS Excalibur Bridge

I can finally show off the design work I did for the USS Excalibur, for use in the upcoming Excalibur fan made video game. The design aim  here was to merge the Sovereign and Intrepid bridge designs to maintain a visual continuity, whilst also evolving those designs in to something that still 'looks' canon. The shots below are very early work in progress but give a good idea of the layout and design direction.

The model was originally built in SketchUp but this has proven to be a huge pain when it comes to importing in to Unreal; SketchUp outputs really messy non game-ready geometry. I'm in the process of learning Maya for future Excalibur models.

Enterprise Poster

Hey all, It's been a while I know! Anyway, here's a poster I knocked up based on the Enterprise Blu-Ray box art, enjoy.

I plan to do some others based on the same theme so I'll post them when they're done.

Further geometry and colour correction...

I've managed to get 99% of the wall geometry done and it seems pretty spot on so far. I've also spent some time tweaking the materials, to better match what what seen on screen. Here's a shot to show how close I am. Obviously next thing is to finish the ceilings, and then I'll start working back towards the holodeck/cargo bay/shuttle bay door.

Dialling geometry in...

Some clay renders I've done while I'm getting geometry pieces right, the wall sections with the glass panels are considerably more complex than they look, and getting the hand rails to join was a bit tricky, SketchUp starts to get very confused with very complex geometry.

More TNG...

I've rebuilt my TNG 'K-Section' corridor since discovering more accurate measurements for the set (see here: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=244483&page=12), and a big thank you to RedGeneral and Mytran on TrekBBS for his hard work in that regard. Anyway, here's how it now looks, only a few tiny tweaks left to sort, then I'll get to work on re-modelling the curved corridor (which is really damn hard).

Rip it up and start again...

My 'ceiling pod' was wrong, and as I got further in to it, it became more and more apparent. Something had gone awry with my scaling, and I found some actual blueprints from the set that confirmed this for me (see below). It's one of those parts that is easier to just bin and start a fresh with, as opposed to trying to fix it, so that's what I did. So here's the mark 2...

Star Trek Excalibur

I'm sure that just about anyone reading this site will of heard of this game, for for the few that haven't, it's definitely worth checking out.

ST:Excalibur has been in development for a few years now and so far is looking incredible, the devs are clearly working very hard at making a deep, accurate and flexible Star Trek game. I can't wait to get my hands on it when it's released!

So far so good

There are a few minor flaws that I need to correct but it's definitely on the right track.
